"It was a big turn around from the battleship tournament and I had a great time. The level of competition was good, I'm glad guys are coming out to support you and the tournament. I think that with more station or mats it would move a lot faster. People want to be in and out that's way I stop competing at the naga and GQ it became and all day event. Thanks again I had a great time." William Martinez
"Hey Jim, although I lost in the first round,:( I must admit the tourney was handled with professionalism. The only thing I can think of that was not so great was the Mat space, also being that everyone was pre registered I think the brackets could have been posted allot faster. I like the guarantee of 2 matches, I have been to grapplers quest many times and the pricing is thru the roof within the last 2 years and you only get to fight one match, so if I loose my first match there goes 75 bucks for 5 mins of rolling, I really hope you guys do the same tourney next year, I liked the fact that it was right before thanks giving. I am thinking about heading over to the dover tourney but not sure being that Im driving in from NY and I hear its about a 3 hour drive?? owell we'll see what happens." Happy Holidays: Dave Diaz "We had a great time at the tournament, and wish we were heading for Dover. The ride is just too long.
The tournament was very professionally done for such a new event. All the staff, especially the referees were fair and approachable. The only issues I had were ones beyond your control. (Competitors sandbagging to easier divisions, Length of the wait between divisions, etc ). There did seem to be confusion on the length of matches and what submissions were allowed, but it didn't seem to be anything major. Also please find more, over 40 year old competitors because these 20 year olds keep beating me up. Although I found the staff all very professional I would like to give mention to one in particular. I failed to get his name, but he was the ref for the No-Gi 200+ lb. advanced division. I wrestled in this division, and he was able to take three fighter of vastly varied size and age, and ran fair enjoyable fights.
I also would like to mention a competitor who seemed to be closely affiliated with the promotion. His name was Mike, and he competed in the No-Gi beginner division. I believe it was 190-199 lbs. He was a true gentleman, he wrestled one of my guys losing a close and hard fought battle, seemingly without a coach. I was touched by his heart and sportsmanship. If this is the kind of competitor you tournaments attract, we surely will be returning." Dave Patton FG Jiu Jitsu "I participated in both the battle at the battleship (where I'm famous for bleeding all over your mats), and the thanksgiving throwdown and I must congratulate you and your staff for learning from all the mistakes of the battleship.
Life is about learning from mistakes and you guys did a great job this time around. I love the pre reg format and the staff was excellent from the top on down. (So I decided to leave your mats and tables blood free this time lol) Thanks again for a great event." Keith B. Gracie Barra Westchester, NY
